Position OverviewRichmond Middle School is seeking a dedicated and student-centered Special Education Teacher to join our team. The ideal candidate will be passionate about supporting diverse learners, committed to inclusive practices, and skilled in developing and implementing individualized education programs (IEPs) that promote student growth and independence.
Key Responsibilities- Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) in compliance with state and federal regulations
- Provide direct instruction and support to students with a variety of learning needs in both general education and specialized settings
- Collaborate with general education teachers to adapt curriculum, instruction, and assessments
- Use data-driven practices to monitor student progress and adjust instruction accordingly
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation, including progress reports and IEP updates
- Communicate effectively with parents/guardians, staff, and service providers
- Participate in IEP meetings and multidisciplinary team meetings
- Foster a safe, inclusive, and supportive classroom environment
- Valid Michigan teaching certificate with Special Education endorsement (or ability to obtain)
- Knowledge of IDEA, MARSE, and best practices in special education
- Strong collaboration, communication, and organizational skills
- Experience working with middle school students preferred
- Ability to differentiate instruction to meet a wide range of student needs
- Experience with co‑teaching models and inclusive classroom practices
- Familiarity with behavior intervention plans (BIPs) and positive behavior supports
- Experience using educational technology and assistive tools
- Citizenship, residency or work visa required
