Job Description

Department: Food Service

Reports to: Building Principal and Dean of Students

Hours: 7:15-8:00 and 10:15-1:00 pm on Full Days of School.

Position does not work on Half Days of School.

Richmond Community Schools is seeking a reliable and energetic individual to join our school team as a Lunch Aide. This position plays a crucial role in ensuring a safe, positive, and organized lunch environment for students. The Lunch Aide/Supervisor will oversee the students during lunchtime, assist with meal distribution, maintain a clean and orderly dining area, and promote good behavior and social interactions among students.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise students during breakfast and lunchtime, ensuring their safety and well-being.
  • Assist students with opening food items, distributing meals, and encouraging healthy eating habits.
  • Help maintain a clean and organized lunch area by wiping down tables, collecting trash, and ensuring proper disposal of waste.
  • Ensure students follow school rules and procedures during lunchtime, including noise levels and respectful behavior.
  • Provide assistance to students as needed, including offering guidance on proper table manners and conflict resolution.
  • Assist in the monitoring of students in the cafeteria line, ensuring an efficient flow of students.
  • Report any behavioral concerns or safety issues to the appropriate school staff.
  • Collaborate with other staff members to ensure the smooth operation of lunch periods.
  • Help students maintain cleanliness by encouraging them to clean up after themselves.
  • Support a positive and inclusive school culture by fostering friendly interactions between students.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience working with children, especially in a school or childcare setting, preferred.
  • Ability to work well with children and maintain a positive, patient, and approachable demeanor.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to handle conflict calmly and fairly.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and perform light physical tasks such as bending and lifting.
  • Commitment to creating a safe and supportive environment for all students.
