Job Description

SUMMARY
:
Bus Paraprofessionals work under the supervision of the Director of Student Support Services and Director of Transportation. This position requires for the staff member to ride the bus along side the student and supervise them at all times.

HOURS
:
Monday, Thursday and Friday from2:50pm-4:15pm

  • Assist with loading and unloading of students on the buses, if needed
  • Regularly lifts 40 lb. individually
  • Understand and be aware of medical needs of students.
  • Provide assistance with medical needs as assigned
  • Assist with behavior management programs and techniques
  • Feed or help students feed themselves, if needed
  • Assists students with toileting, if needed
  • Manage required forms and records
  • Supervises student involved in non-classroom activities, recess, lunch etc.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of students’ problems
  • Implement prescribed behavioral management programs
  • And other duties assigned to support the educational needs and plan for students

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
:

Maintain appropriate student supervision from the time students enter the bus until they are released to authorized school staff or parent/guardian.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and experience with children with disabilities preferred.

LANGUAGE SKILLS
:
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY
:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

OTHER

SKILLS and ABILITIES

:
Ability to work with children with disabilities. The ability to interact with public and other staff is required. The ability to tell where sound is coming from is essential in this job. The ability to meet multiple demands from several people. Ability to develop effective working relationships with students, staff and the school community. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.

Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.
