Job Description - Administrative Assistant III – Count Room – Jester III Unit (035031) )
Job Summary
Performs complex administrative support work, providing administrative support including dissemination of information, maintaining filing systems, and preparing & editing reports and documents. Work under general supervision with moderate latitude for independent judgment.
Essential Functions- Organizes, assigns, and reviews unit count room activities, including unit absentee tracking procedures and inmate housing assignment.
- Coordinates with security staff to ensure accurate count process and housing assignments, resolving errors and maintaining count room board display.
- Compiles and enters data for accurate count room records and verification of unit strength and count.
- Responds to routine inquiries regarding count room rules and assists in developing policies.
- Organizes, assigns, and reviews work of others and assists in training and technical assistance.
- Performs other marginal duties as needed.
- Graduation from an accredited senior high school or GED.
- One year full‑time, wage‑earning customer service, clerical, secretarial, administrative support, or criminal justice experience.
- Corrective unit operations, computer operations, inmate classification experience preferred.
- Knowledge of office practices, unit count room procedures, agency policies, and regulations.
- Skills:
clear communication, coordination with staff, application of rules, problem‑solving, computer use, accurate record keeping, planning and organizing work, and supervising tasks.
- Physical ability to walk, stand, sit, kneel, push, stoop, reach, grasp, pull, bend repeatedly, climb stairs, identify colors, hear, see, write, count, read, speak, analyze, alphabetize, lift ≤15 lbs., perceive depth, operate vehicle and motor equipment.
- Work involves exposure to moving machines, radiant and electrical energy, close teamwork, solitary work, irregular hours, and travel by car, van, bus, and airplane.
- Equipment used: computer, calculator, copier, fax, telephone, dolly, automobile.
