Job Summary
Administrative Assistant I – Food Service Department at the Richmond State Supported Living Center. The role involves clerical work, data entry, mail handling, assisting staff and public inquiries and supporting the daily operations of the food service team. Full‑time, on‑site at 2100 Preston, Richmond, TX. Salary: $2,481.75 – $3,404.91 monthly.
Core Responsibilities- Perform clerical tasks including compiling and tabulating data, checking documents for accuracy, handling documents and inventory, and maintaining files.
- Coordinate receiving, storing, and issuing of files, materials, and supplies.
- Answer inquiries about policies and procedures, assist staff and the public with forms, and provide information via mail or phone.
- Prepare documents for data entry, enter data into the database, and reconcile discrepancies in reports, purchase orders, correspondence, and other related forms.
- Maintain office schedules and appointments; perform backup receptionist or telephone switchboard duties.
- Manage mail: open, sort, distribute inbound mail, prepare outbound mail, and maintain the mail‑tracking system.
- Deliver, pick up, or receive documents, supplies, equipment, and arrange for repairs or services.
- Arrange scheduling, transfer, display of surplus property and conduct physical inventory.
- Perform related duties as assigned, including occasional participation in disaster response or continuity operations.
- Work on a regular, predictable schedule and attend in accordance with agency leave policy.
- Follow written and oral instructions and work harmoniously with co‑workers.
- Provide backup receptionist or telephone switchboard services.
- Maintain high clerical standards and accuracy.
- Knowledge of food preparation methods, food storage standards, and sanitation regulations.
- Skill in operating and sanitizing food‑service equipment.
- Ability to prepare and serve food and maintain accurate records.
- Ability to speak and read English and comply with written and oral instructions.
- Basic math skills.
- Physical ability to lift ≥40 pounds, bend, reach, stand or walk on hard floors for extended periods, work in hot or cold conditions, and use senses to detect food quality.
Education and Experience
Graduation from a standard senior high school or equivalent.
Initial Screening CriteriaApplicant must be at least 18 years of age.
Other Requirements- All applicants must pass a fingerprint criminal background check, pre‑employment drug screen, and registry checks (CANRS, Nurse Aide, Medication Aide, Employee Misconduct, LEIE).
- Must be willing to work flexible hours, overtime, weekends and holidays.
- Male applicants between 18 and 25 must register with the Selective Service System.
- All employees are subject to random drug testing.
