Job Overview
The Teacher will plan and implement an instructional program and provide related educational services for students in assigned grade levels. The incumbent will manage student behavior, assess and evaluate student achievement, and modify instructional activities as required, as well as carry out a variety of student monitoring and control activities. Any teacher who will coach a UIL sport will also provide athletic services related to that sport and the athletic program.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Assess student abilities as related to desired educational goals, objectives, and outcomes, continually documenting assessment and evaluation data for institutional and individual reporting.
- Plan appropriate instructional/learning strategies and activities, including determining the appropriate material type and level.
- Implement an instructional program that provides appropriate learning experiences, considering different learning styles and curves.
- Manage learner behavior in the instructional setting to ensure a conducive learning environment, and assist in managing behavior in other parts of the school or community.
- Coordinate instructional and testing activities with other professional staff, both school and non‑school‑based, to maximize learning opportunities.
- Utilize a variety of instructional materials and available multimedia and computer technology to enhance learning.
- Work in a self‑contained, team, departmental, itinerant capacity, or at field work sites as assigned; request assistance of and work with resource personnel.
- Participate in in‑service and staff development activities and staff meetings as required.
- Maintain continuous communication with parents, both written and oral, to keep them informed of student progress.
- Communicate continually with students about instructional expectations and keep them informed of their progress toward meeting those expectations.
- Manage allotted learning time to maximize student achievement.
- May assign work to and supervise instructional assistants, parent and student volunteers.
- Ensure classroom and instructional environment is attractive, healthful, safe, and conducive to learning, with accessible and well‑maintained materials.
- As itinerant, serve at two or more schools on a regular basis; may make off‑school site visits to monitor students and confer with employers or site instructors.
- Support or participate in school‑wide student activities, social events, and approved fund‑raising activities.
- Monitor student behavior in non‑instructional areas and intervene to control and modify disruptive behavior, reporting to the appropriate administrator.
- Collaborate with other professionals (guidance counselors, librarians) to carry out school‑wide instructional or related activities.
- Perform coaching duties as assigned and other duties required for a smooth, efficient athletic program.
- Possess knowledge of and adhere to UIL rules and regulations.
- Assist the Athletic Department with budget, schedules, and facilities management.
- Communicate with the Athletic Department on a regular basis.
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Master’s degree preferred.
- Valid Teaching Certification issued by the Texas Education Agency, appropriate to subject and grade level, or a statement of eligibility.
- Valid Texas ESL Certification for Elementary and Secondary English/ELA teaching assignments, or must be obtained within 6 months of hire.
- Valid Bilingual Certification for Bilingual teaching assignments.
- Valid driver’s license; CDL certification preferred if coaching a UIL sport.
- Coaching experience preferred if coaching a UIL sport.
- Demonstrated knowledge of FBISD program of studies related to assignments and public school mission, goals, and organization.
- Demonstrated knowledge of content, curriculum, methods, materials, and equipment of instructional specialties to which assigned.
- Demonstrated knowledge of adolescent growth and development, or adult learning theory if applicable.
- Ability to apply current research and theory to instructional programs.
