Montessori Assistant Guide/Teacher

The Assistant Guide, under the supervision of the Lead Guide, Head of School, and School Administration, is, above all, responsible for ensuring the safety of students. Additionally, the Assistant Guide is crucial in creating and maintaining an environment that facilitates the students' independent and joyful learning.

In Montessori Education, this is called the "Prepared Environment" and includes:

  • Freedom, Structure, and Order
  • Beauty, Nature, and Reality
  • Development of Social, Emotional, and Intellectual Skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Always ensure the safety and well-being of all students in your care.
  • Maintain compliance with the regulations and standards related to your role as 'caregiver', as required by Childcare Licensing (Minimum Standards) and as outlined in the School's Employee Handbook, Classroom, and Operational Procedures.
  • Demonstrate the ability to relate with children respectfully, effectively, and joyfully.
  • Demonstrate emotional maturity and professionalism.

Duties Include:

  • Assist in guiding children through Montessori activities and materials, ensuring they understand how to use them and supporting their exploration and learning.
  • Foster an environment where children feel confident to take initiative and make choices in their learning activities, promoting self-directed learning.
  • Help children develop emotional awareness, inner discipline, and strong social skills through positive interactions, conflict resolution, and modeling appropriate behavior.
  • Support classroom routines and perform the assistant duties (per the classroom-specific procedures) to help ensure that the classroom operates smoothly, and that children's needs are met.
  • Encourage respect for others and inclusivity and support a diverse classroom environment where all children feel valued and understood.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development to stay informed about Montessori principles, educational practices, and any new strategies or materials that can enhance the learning environment.
