About the Service CenterThe state supported living centers serve people with intellectual and developmental disabilities who are medically fragile or have behavioral challenges. These centers provide campus‑based direct services and supports at 13 centers throughout the state.
Responsibilities- Perform moderately complex custodial work for assigned locations, including office buildings, premises, and resident living units.
- Cleans, dusts, disinfects, and sanitizes to maintain a safe and healthy environment.
- Operate floor maintenance equipment such as strippers, buffers, vacuums, and extractors.
- Request and restock supplies as necessary.
- Assist in conducting inspections of buildings and equipment for cleanliness and needed repairs.
- Assist in performing minor building and equipment repairs and installations.
- Train other custodians as needed and provide documentation of any training conducted.
- Maintain assigned custodial equipment in good working order.
- Maintain outside areas around the building, clear trash and debris.
- Perform related work as assigned, including assuming the duties of other custodians as needed.
- Work under general supervision with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
- Attend work on a regular basis and may be required to work a specific shift schedule or an extended shift and/or overtime in accordance with agency leave policy.
- Perform custodial functions timely and with high quality, including sweeping, mopping, dusting and cleaning windows and light fixtures.
- Ensure proper sanitization and disinfection in accordance with training received.
- Cleans and maintains floor care, restroom care, bedroom care, nurses’ station and isolation areas in accordance with established procedures and safety measures.
- Maintain and clean the interior and exterior of assigned buildings; report needed repairs; empty trash; replenish supplies as needed.
- Train and coach other custodians as needed, and provide documentation of any training conducted.
- Inspect assigned buildings and areas for cleanliness, completed work and needed minor repairs, and perform minor maintenance.
- Complete documentation in an accurate and timely manner, protect confidential information, and maintain inventory and equipment records.
- Help residents maintain optimal health and provide a safe environment for self, persons served and others.
- Other duties as assigned, including participating in disaster response and/or recovery or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation.
- Knowledge of cleaning methods, standards, and sanitation regulations.
- Knowledge of infection control principles and methods.
- Knowledge of inventory control principles and methods.
- Skill in using custodial equipment, materials, and safe handling of chemicals.
- Skill in use and maintenance of building maintenance tools and equipment.
- Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
- Ability to train others.
- Ability to supervise the work of others.
- Ability to lift 50 pounds.
- Ability to stand/walk on hard floors for an extended period.
- Ability to work harmoniously and productively with co‑workers and residents.

Must possess a valid Texas driver license or obtain it no later than 90 days after hire date to drive a state vehicle. Applicants with an out‑of‑state driver license must provide an original certified driving record from that state.
