Location:
Richmond State Supported Living Center, 2100 Preston, RICHMOND, TX. Shift: Regular Weekend Day. Salary: $4,548.00‑$5,921.16 monthly.
Responsibilities:
- Attend work regularly on scheduled shifts, which may include rotating, extended, and overtime as required.
- Administer medications and treatments orally, rectally, internally, or by injection; assist physicians, RNs, APRNs, and PAs in patient care.
- Perform rounds and home visits as needed; provide care in multiple centers.
- Demonstrate competency in complex technical nursing tasks and procedures (e.g., tracheostomy care, gastrostomy care, wound care, breathing treatments).
- Collect specimens for laboratory examination and conduct appropriate screening tests; maintain accurate specimen records.
- Monitor patients’ weight, diet, feedings, and vital signs; observe health status post‑treatment and report to RN/PCA.
- Document and report treatments and observations accurately in the electronic health record or paper chart.
- Cultivate interdisciplinary collaboration; communicate pertinent information to RNs, case managers, infection control, QA nurses, and other team members.
- Serve as a resource and mentor for new LVNs and direct care staff; provide on‑the‑job instruction.
- Assist RNs in implementing protocols, procedures, and programs to improve health and safety of staff and residents.
- Educate residents about procedures and medications, ensuring understanding of purpose and usage.
- Assist or instruct other staff in repositioning residents for treatment administration; maintain proper positioning for all care activities.
- Ensure supplies are available by taking inventory and ordering through appropriate channels.
- Respond to emergency situations and follow safety and infection control procedures.
- Complete additional duties as assigned, such as clinic or lab work, patient scheduling, accompaniment to off‑site appointments, and disaster response or continuity operations support.
- Provide treatment to HHS employees injured in course or scope of employment.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs):
- Knowledge of nursing care standards, procedures, and techniques for patient care.
- Knowledge of emergency procedures, including CPR, and ability to assess and care for residents during emergencies.
- Reasoning skills to identify problems and determine appropriate resolutions.
- Computer skills for using applicable software and electronic health record systems.
- Skill in patient care for individuals with complex medical, mental health, and/or behavioral health issues.
- Ability to prepare and maintain accurate records using an electronic health record system.
- Effective communication skills and ability to instruct others.
- Ability to interact appropriately with individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities, families, and staff.
- Maintain current CPR certification; possess strength and flexibility for CPR.
Licensure and
Certifications:
- Licensed or eligible for a Texas Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) license (or equivalent via Nurse Licensure Compact).
- Or hold a temporary permit to perform supervised nursing duties while awaiting licensure.
Initial Screening Criteria:
- Graduated from an LVN program.
- Prior employment or volunteer experience with persons with intellectual or developmental disabilities.
- Experience using an electronic health record system.
- Preferred: prior LVN employment experience.
Additional Requirements:
- Applicants must pass a fingerprint criminal background check, pre‑employment drug screen, and registry checks (e.g., CANRS, Nurse Aide).
- Males 18‑25 must register with the Selective Service.
- All employees subject to random drug testing.
- Flexibility to work weekends, holidays, overtime, and extended hours may be required.
- Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.
