Senior Accountant

Hays are seeking an experienced Senior Accountant to join an established boutique based in Canberra.

Partner with a well-respected professional firm known for its supportive culture, modern systems, and long-term client relationships. With a strong presence in the ACT market, the firm has built a reputation for quality advisory services and a collaborative team environment. Due to continued growth in their specialist SMSF portfolio, they are now looking to appoint a senior professional to join their team.

Working as a Senior Accountant within a specialist team, you will take ownership of a high-quality portfolio of SMSFs while supporting and mentoring junior staff. Your role will include:

• Managing end-to-end SMSF administration and compliance
• Overseeing preparation of financial statements and tax returns
• Providing technical guidance on SMSF legislation and tax matters
• Reviewing work completed by junior accountants and supporting their development
• Contributing to process improvement initiatives and identifying opportunities
• Working closely with partners on client strategy and overall business improvement

To be considered, you will demonstrate:

• A degree in Accounting or related discipline
• A minimum of 5 years' + experience in public practice, tax or business services
• Strong, hands-on knowledge of SMSF regulations and Australian tax law
• High-level competency with cloud accounting platforms
• Confident communication skills and the ability to build rapport with internal and external stakeholders
• Capability to supervise staff and manage workflow within a busy practice
