Virginia Peninsula Community College (VPCC) is a two‑year institution of higher education established as a part of the statewide system of community colleges. It primarily serves the residents of Hampton, Newport News, Poquoson, and Williamsburg, and the counties of James City and York.
This position is responsible for accurate and timely processing, recording, and reconciliation of transactions, including but not limited to local and state funds, accounts payable, payroll, and grant financial transactions for VPCC. The incumbent prepares and validates financial statements and related schedules and compiles and analyzes fiscal data for proper classification and reporting. The role works with the grant program manager to track, audit, reconcile, and report on grants and performs other duties as assigned.

Special Assignments- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
- Extensive and varied accounting experience with primary or considerable responsibility for month‑end and year‑end closing cycles.
- Relevant work experience in grant accounting including compilation, validation, expense analysis, expense reimbursement, and reporting to internal and external stakeholders.
- Primary or significant experience with and responsibility for preparation and/or review of year‑end financial statement schedules.
- Experience serving as the subject matter expert in the interpretation and application of accounting principles and treatment.
- Comprehensive knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Governmental Accounting Standards.
- Thorough knowledge of Grant Accounting, Grant Reporting, Code of Federal Regulations (CFR), Title 2, Part 200 Uniform Administrative Requirements, Cost Principles, and Audit Requirements for Federal Awards.
- Thorough knowledge of month and year‑end accounting cycles and processes to include revenue, accounts receivable, procurement, accounts payable, payroll, fixed assets, cash management, financial statement preparation, and external audits and reviews.
- Working knowledge of Higher Education Accounting Standards.
- Working knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Proficiency in accounting software and systems.
- Excellent time management skills.
- Proficiency in critical thinking, problem solving, and emotional intelligence.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite with advanced skill in Excel.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
