Job Description & How to Apply Below

Aspen Mountain Partners acquires and operates successful small businesses with one guiding principle: find great companies with loyal, talented, driven team members, then help those teams grow. Through the hard work of our people, we have grown from a two-person operation into a complex, nationwide organization with hundreds of team members. Our next chapter includes additional acquisitions, cultural integration, operational improvements, and the launch of new business lines.

We are continuing to build an ideal team to make this happen.

About the Role

We are seeking a hands‑on Controller to lead financial operations across a growing portfolio of small businesses. This is not a siloed corporate accounting role. The right person will be comfortable moving between strategic financial leadership and day‑to‑day execution. You will serve as the internal financial authority for multiple operating companies, with a particular focus on small business accounting, pass‑through entities, tax compliance, cash management, and process improvement.

We are looking for someone who can bring deep expertise in C‑Corp and LLC accounting structures, strengthen internal controls, improve financial visibility, and reduce our reliance on external CPAs by building strong internal accounting and tax compliance capabilities.

Our Culture

Aspen Mountain Partners is a challenging, entrepreneurial, and fulfilling place to work. Our culture is rooted in teamwork and continuous improvement. We care deeply about the businesses we operate, the people we work with, and the positive impact our companies can have on customers, employees, families, and communities. We look for team members who are humble, hungry, and smart. We believe high standards and healthy balance can coexist.

If you are ready to contribute to meaningful work, and build a lasting career in a growing family of businesses, we would love to hear from you.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage the general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and related accounting processes.
  • Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes with accuracy and discipline.
  • Oversee payroll processing and related payroll tax filings.
  • Ensure financial records are complete, accurate, and decision‑ready.
  • Serve as the primary internal resource for federal, state, and local tax compliance.
  • Manage multi‑state sales and use tax nexus tracking, filings, and compliance requirements.
  • Prepare comprehensive year‑end work papers for external CPA review.
  • Support a smooth, organized, and timely tax season across all entities.
  • Ensure compliance with local business licenses, property tax filings, and other recurring regulatory requirements.
Small Business Operations
  • Develop and maintain rolling cash flow forecasts to proactively manage working capital.
  • Identify opportunities to simplify, automate, and improve accounting processes.
  • Support a lean administrative team by building practical, scalable financial systems.
  • Manage key external relationships, including insurance brokers, banks, vendors, and accounting partners.
  • Provide financial insight and operational support to company leaders.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • CPA or Enrolled Agent designation strongly preferred.
  • 7+ years of progressive accounting experience.
  • At least 3 years of experience in a small business, entrepreneurial, or multi‑entity environment.
  • Expert‑level proficiency with Quick Books Online and/or Quick Books Desktop.
  • Strong working knowledge of C‑Corp and LLC tax structures.
  • Experience with multi‑state tax compliance, payroll tax filings, sales and use tax, and year‑end CPA support.
  • Ability to operate independently, prioritize effectively, and build structure in a fast‑moving environment.
What Sets You Apart
  • Resourcefulness:
You solve problems independently, even when conditions are imperfect and information is incomplete.
  • Ability to execute:
You have a “no task too small” approach and take pride in getting things done correctly.
  • Small Business Operator:
You understand that strong financial leadership in a growing small business requires both strategic thinking and hands‑on work.
  • Ownership:
You do not wait for someone else to define the next step. You see what needs to be done and take responsibility for making it happen.
Benefits include:
  • Incentive Compensation
  • Company Paid Holidays and Vacation
  • Sponsored Health, Dental, Vision, and Life Insurance
