We are looking for an experienced, detail-oriented corporate tax specialist to manage a broad range of compliance and reporting activities for a manufacturing organization in Richmond, Virginia. This role combines hands-on tax execution with opportunities to guide process improvements, respond to regulatory matters, and support operational priorities across the business. The ideal candidate brings strong technical tax knowledge, works effectively with limited oversight, and is comfortable coordinating with internal teams and external advisors.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare and oversee federal, state, and local income tax filings, including consolidated federal returns and state filings prepared on unitary or separate-company bases.
- Manage quarterly estimates, filing extensions, and related compliance deadlines to ensure accurate and timely submissions.
- Respond to tax notices, information requests, and audit activity from regulatory authorities while coordinating documentation and follow-up actions.
- Partner with internal stakeholders and outside service providers to gather, validate, and analyze data needed for tax reporting and compliance.
- Support a wide range of non-income tax activities, including nexus reviews, state tax registrations, franchise and gross receipts tax matters, sales and use tax, property tax, and information reporting requirements.
- Contribute to specialized tax work such as transfer pricing, international tax matters, and other multi-jurisdictional compliance obligations.
- Perform monthly and annual tax accounting tasks, including provision calculations and reconciliation of tax-related accounts in accordance with applicable accounting standards.
- Maintain business compliance filings such as Secretary of State registrations, business license requirements, census-related reporting, and unclaimed property submissions.
- Identify regulatory developments, improve written procedures, and lead process enhancements that strengthen the efficiency and consistency of the tax function.
- Provide independent ownership of assigned work streams and review selected work prepared by staff or peers as needed.
