Assurance Intern – Summer 2027 (Richmond) | BDO USAThe Tone:

This is a full-time internship at BDO USA, located in Richmond, VA. BDO is a professional services firm that provides assurance, tax, and advisory services to clients across the U.S. and globally. This role offers energetic self‑starters the opportunity to gain unique hands‑on experience, apply their academic knowledge, and build critical relationships within the Assurance practice. You will contribute to client service and firm success by assisting experienced team members with problem‑solving and fact‑finding.

What You’ll Actually Do
  • Training:
    Participate in a structured on-the-job training program to become familiar with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Generally Accepted Auditing Standards (GAAS).
  • Audit Process Support:
    Apply BDO’s specific audit methodology to assist with various stages of the audit process.
  • Engagement Support:
    Provide various support functions to the audit staff during engagement activities.
  • Client Communication:
    Communicate with clients’ customers, creditors, banks, and related parties concerning audit issues.
  • Documentation:
    Prepare and document work in working papers utilizing BDO specific tools and templates.
The Must‑Haves
  • Background:
    Enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s program in Accounting, pursuing an entry‑level career in assurance.
  • Experience:

    No specific professional experience is required; this role is for students actively pursuing an accounting degree.
  • Skills:

    Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to follow instructions and work effectively in a team setting.
  • Bonus:
    Pursuing a master’s degree in Accounting; demonstrated leadership experience; actively pursuing school credits to become a CPA; possessing a positive attitude and willingness to learn.
