Accounts Payable Specialist

Description We are looking for an Accounts Payable Specialist to support a manufacturing organization in Richmond, Virginia through accurate and efficient payment operations. This Long-term Contract position is well suited for someone who is detail-oriented, organized, and comfortable managing high-volume financial transactions in a structured environment. The role focuses on invoice handling, vendor record accuracy, and day-to-day accounts payable activities while working with tools such as Microsoft Office and People Soft.

Responsibilities:

- Process invoices from receipt through payment, ensuring timely entry, proper documentation, and adherence to internal controls.

- Review and assign correct account codes to payable transactions so expenses are recorded accurately.

- Maintain and update supplier records, including validating data and supporting efforts to improve vendor master file accuracy.

- Execute payment activities such as ACH transactions and check runs in accordance with established schedules and procedures.

- Reconcile payable information and investigate discrepancies by coordinating with vendors and internal teams.

- Use People Soft and Microsoft Office applications to manage accounts payable records, reporting, and workflow tracking.

- Monitor outstanding items and follow up on approvals or missing information to keep payment processing on track. Requirements - Experience performing full-cycle accounts payable tasks in a detail-oriented business environment.

- Working knowledge of invoice coding and account coding principles.

- Hands-on experience processing electronic payments, including ACH, and supporting check disbursements.

- Familiarity with vendor maintenance and data accuracy within supplier records.

- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially Excel, for financial tracking and documentation.

- Experience using People Soft or a similar enterprise accounting system.

- Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities with accuracy.
