Job Summary
The Desk Coordinator works within the Facilities and Operations team to foster a residential environment that fulfills the goals and vision of the Department of Residential Life & Housing. The mission is to provide safe and well‑maintained facilities that build intentional communities to empower residents in their academic excellence, citizenship, and personal growth. This full‑time professional will manage the daily operations for over 6,000 on‑campus students and report to the Coordinator of Desk Operations.

Responsibilities- Responsible for hiring, training, supervising, scheduling and evaluating all RL&H Desk Assistants.
- Serve on a shift basis between 7 am and midnight, 7 days a week.
- Support the Desk Assistants and provide crisis response for emergencies that arise within the residence hall information desks.
- Coordinate the administrative functions of residence hall information desks across campus.
- Provide leadership in fostering a responsible decision‑making atmosphere among the Desk Assistants.
- Effective management skills.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Crisis management experience.
- Ability to work collaboratively.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to work well under pressure with multiple and changing deadlines.
- Proficiency with technology such as scheduling systems, web applications, online systems, database software, and standard office packages.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, managing several responsibilities simultaneously and resolving problems using initiative and sound judgment.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Experience fostering an environment of respect, professionalism, and civility with a diverse population of faculty, staff, and students.
- Experience in a higher‑education setting.
- Previous residence life experience.
- Experience collaborating with Residential Life and VCU PD.
- Experience with access control.
- Supervision experience.
