Working under the direction of the Principal, the Front Desk Assistant rew's School is the welcoming face of our community. In a school where every child receives a full scholarship and every family is treated as a partner, the front desk is more than an administrative post. It is where relationships begin. This role is central to the daily rhythm of school life, ensuring that visitors, families, and students are received with warmth and care, and that front-of-house operations support a safe, orderly, and inclusive environment.
Position OverviewThis is a year-round, part-time position. During the academic year, hours are approximately 30 per week, aligned with school hours of 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. During summer months, the schedule shifts to a reduced week, Monday through Thursday, 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM, reflecting the school’s summer calendar. Compensation is salaried and consistent year-round.
School OverviewSt. Andrew's School (SAS) is a tuition-free, independent Episcopal day school serving students in Kindergarten through 5th grade in Richmond, Virginia. Established in 1894, SAS is one of a small number of schools in the country that provides an independent school education to children from families with limited financial resources through a full scholarship for every child. With 96 students across six grade levels, we employ a whole-child approach to education that integrates academics, family engagement, graduate support, social-emotional learning, visual and performing arts, and wellness and nutrition.

Key Responsibilities- Serve as the first point of contact for visitors, families, and guests, welcoming everyone with warmth and professionalism
- Answer and route incoming phone calls; manage general school communications at the front desk
- Monitor and manage building access, ensuring all visitors sign in and follow school safety protocols
- Track late student arrivals and early student sign-outs, maintaining accurate daily records in coordination with classroom teachers and school administration
- Receive and route packages, deliveries, and mail
- Handle basic financial transactions including petty cash management and collection of school fees with accuracy and integrity
- Provide general administrative support to school operations as needed
This role requires the ability to navigate a multi-story building and carry items up to 20 pounds.

Required- Excellent communication skills with attention to detail
- Punctuality and dependability
- Ability to maintain accurate records with appropriate levels of confidentiality
- Proficient technology skills using Microsoft Office Suite and Google products; comfortable and willing to learn additional software and web-based programs
- Ability to handle basic financial transactions accurately and with integrity
- Flexibility and enthusiasm for working in a dynamic school environment
- Ability to maintain productive, collaborative relationships with staff across departments
- Adherence to all personnel policies, procedures, and rules contained in the School Employee Handbook
- Successful completion of criminal offender record information, fingerprinting, and sexual offender registry information checks
- Bachelor's degree
- Experience working around elementary-age children
- Familiarity with email communication platforms and school information systems
