Job Duties

The Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, is seeking a Division Administrative Coordinator to provide professional support to the Division of Consumer Protection (DCP), including the Director and Deputy Director, who are responsible for the protection of the economic, health, safety and other interests of agriculture, agribusiness, business, consumers and the general public in support of the Agency mission and strategic plan through the activities of four major program areas.

These areas include charitable and regulatory programs, weights and measures, plant industry services, and pesticide services. The Administrative Coordinator will provide support and research to all of the program areas with developing, implementing, and interpreting policies, regulations, and legislation; conducting research and preparing technical documents and reports; leading special projects for the division and related programs; providing routine administrative assistance;

and interacting with a wide variety of customers both internal and external to the organization. Additionally, this position may supervise division administrative duties and staff. Once onboarded, this position may be eligible for telework opportunities; availability, hours, and duration of telework shall be approved as outlined in the Commonwealth's telework policy.

Minimum Qualifications

Comprehensive knowledge of current business and administrative procedures as related to those of an executive or regulatory office as well as of standard legislative and regulatory processes. Exceptional customer service skills and superior oral and written communication skills to include proper use of grammar, spelling and punctuation while independently composing letters, reports, and the formatting of regulations. Proficiency with the full MS Office Suite.

The ability to handle sensitive and confidential information; to analyze, organize, prioritize, expedite and track workloads; to interact professionally with a variety of agency staff, government officials and the public; to purchase and procure supplies and equipment; and to work in a fast paced and sometimes stressful environment while effectively handling multiple tasks. The proven ability to research and report on specific regulatory topics;

interpret and apply policies and procedures; manage projects and administrative processes; and work independently while exercising sound judgment and decision making. Must be a team player and display effective leadership abilities. H.S. Diploma/GED required.

Additional Considerations

Current/recent work experience in an executive level administrative support position in a regulatory environment is desired. A combination of related education, training, and experience indicating possession of the preceding knowledge, skills, and abilities to include knowledge of consumer protection, agriculture, public administration, business administration, or a related field. Experience with consumer protection and formal supervisory experience preferred.
