Overview

The Accounts Receivable Specialist manages a portfolio of customer accounts, performing account maintenance, reconciliation, and facilitating accurate cash flow. The role involves follow‑up with agents, business partners, and direct insureds on billing and payment questions, and requires collaboration with underwriting, agents, brokers, and customers to approve payment terms and resolve disputes.

Responsibilities
  • Achieve prescribed accuracy standards.
  • Achieve prescribed productivity standards.
  • Balance customer accounts while communicating effectively with internal and external business partners.
  • Contribute to team meeting service‑level standards set forth by department leadership.
  • Handle customer service inquiries via multiple channels efficiently and effectively.
  • Initiate appropriate action based on analysis, working with underwriting, agents, brokers, and customers to approve payment terms and resolve disputes.
  • Maintain a professional working relationship with colleagues at Markel.
  • Perform reconciliation of unapplied cash to open receivables, offsetting transactions, and initiating adjustments where applicable.
  • Review agent, broker, and customer payment discrepancies to determine origin.
  • Execute assigned Performance Goals by following prescribed training guidelines.
Qualifications
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Good written and oral communication skills.
  • Good organizational skills.
  • Digital literacy, especially in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Ability to work within deadlines.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
  • U.S. work authorization; no sponsorship required.
