Opening Statement

Richmond Waldorf School is seeking a Development Coordinator.

The Development Coordinator is focused on supporting the school through fundraising, grants, communication, alum relations, and school events. This position will work closely with other members of the Development Committee and reports directly to the Executive Director.

About Richmond Waldorf School

Richmond Waldorf School was founded in 1996 with a passion for providing children a holistic education that falls in alignment with their natural human development through hands‑on, nature‑rich, and play‑based experiences. We are dedicated to cultivating creative thinking, genuine inquiry, and a love of learning. The school now serves 200 students from Pre‑K through 8th grade and offers specialty programs in Movement Arts, French, Mandarin, Biking, Handwork, Music and Strings, Woodwork, Visual Arts, and Latin.

Our campus is located in the Northside of Richmond, Virginia, near Virginia Commonwealth University and the University of Richmond, and within a few hours of the Blue Ridge Mountains, Washington, DC, and the coastal beaches of Virginia and North Carolina.

Job Duties Fundraising
  • Strategically plan and execute a Fundraising plan for the fiscal year alongside the Development Committee, including the Annual Fund, fundraising events, Holiday Faire & vendors, May Faire, Gala, Silent Auction, event sponsor ships, and donor stewardship.
  • Manage the creation and disbursement of the Annual Report each September.
  • Create and distribute both mailed and emailed fundraising campaign outreach.
  • Gather and track progress toward fundraising goals.
  • Advertise fundraising progress to the school community, including writing communications, posting on social media, and personal communication with top donors.
  • Track the amount raised, percentage participation, and class rewards earned, and provide updates to the school community.
  • Send thank you notes to donors.
  • Prepare and share tax deduction receipts with all donors.
  • Follow up on pledges not received throughout the spring.
  • Work closely with the Executive Director on a capital campaign in the near future.
Grants
  • Maintain reporting requirements for all awarded grants.
  • Apply for grants that support the school’s long‑range plans.
Communication
  • Coordinate and execute a community‑wide communications strategy for the fiscal year, including weekly Messenger communication, gathering clear and concise information from all realms of the school to share with parents, social media, external communications for events and campaigns, the Annual Report, and assistance with any one‑off communications throughout the year.
  • Co‑create content with the Director of Enrollment and Development for all social media accounts, posting periodically as it pertains to fundraising and other development‑associated content.
Alum Relations
  • Build upon current alum relationship efforts.
  • Coordinate new efforts in consultation with the High School Transition Coordinator and the Executive Director.
School Events
  • Co‑coordinate with the Director of Enrollment and Development the project management of school events to ensure clear communication and expectations and to meet the needs of the community.
  • Support the planning and execution of a year‑long Community Enrichment Series consisting of approximately 3‑4 evening sessions hosted by RWS faculty or guest speakers on Waldorf‑aligned topics.
  • Act as a liaison with the Director of Enrollment and Development for the Parents Association, guiding event planning, volunteerism, and alignment of PA happenings with the larger community calendar.
General
  • Submit internal and external reports in a timely manner.
