What You Will Do:

GFT is seeking a Senior Construction Inspector to join our Construction Services team in the Virginia (Richmond, Culpeper, Fredericksburg, Staunton, and Lynchburg) area. This role follows a hybrid work model, requiring regular attendance at our nearest office.

We oversee all construction phases to ensure projects are completed on schedule, within budget, and to the highest safety and quality standards.

What you'll be challenged to do:

Inspect all phases of highway construction and maintenance projects. Oversee, monitor, and inspect routine highway construction phases including maintenance, bridge, signal installation, and roadway construction. Measure, test, and verify materials, methods, and installations to ensure contractor conformance with plans, specifications, and contract documents. Document contractor progress daily, input data into automated systems, and generate reports and correspondence.

Responsibilities include:
  • 6 years of VDOT experience and knowledge of roadway, traffic signals, structure, and bridge construction methods, materials, standards, symbols, and terminology.
  • Prepare and review daily inspector reports, maintain project diaries, and document materials using Site Manager, LCAMS, and other test reports.
  • Record and monitor material quantities and testing results.
  • Check materials and documents, perform physical tests, analyze samples, and coordinate with testing laboratories.
  • Maintain comprehensive project records including diaries, workforce, equipment, materials, inspection reports, photos, as-built plans, pay quantities, schedules, work orders, and payment estimates.
  • Track submittals and RFI requests, maintain correspondence.
  • Perform schedule reviews and conduct meetings such as Preconstruction and Progress Meetings.
