Job Title:
Civil Superintendent
The Civil Superintendent works between the civil and quality teams to ensure all site work is built in strict accordance with project specifications, drawings, and quality standards. This role oversees a wide range of civil construction activities, primarily focused on mass grading and trenching, and ensures they are executed safely, on schedule, and to the required level of quality. The Civil Superintendent collaborates closely with subcontractors, engineers, construction management, and QA/QC and Safety teams, driving field productivity, resolving conflicts, and supporting a seamless transition into subsequent construction phases.
Responsibilities- Oversee all on-site civil construction activities, including site grading, clearing, basin excavation, and road and access road installation.
- Manage trenching, back filling, and compaction operations to ensure they meet project specifications and quality requirements.
- Supervise installation of foundations for inverter pads, tracker posts, and racking systems, verifying compliance with drawings and standards.
- Ensure implementation and maintenance of SWPPP and erosion control measures, perimeter fencing, stormwater management systems, and landscape buffer installations.
- Work closely behind civil subcontractors to verify that all work meets specifications, quality expectations, and project requirements.
- Monitor subcontractor performance to ensure safety, quality, and schedule adherence, and hold them accountable for productivity and compliance.
- Review civil drawings and contract documents, identify conflicts or constructability issues, and collaborate with construction management and engineering to resolve them promptly without impacting schedule or quality.
- Ensure proper layout and survey control for all civil work and verify as-built conditions for accuracy and completeness.
- Conduct daily site walks to monitor work progress, environmental compliance, safety compliance, and QA/QC standards, documenting findings and follow-up actions as needed.
- Enforce site-specific quality and safety procedures in coordination with QA/QC and Safety teams, promoting a strong safety culture on site.
- Inspect civil work elements regularly to assess installation quality and ensure adherence to project specifications and codes.
- Coordinate with multiple stakeholders, including subcontractors and internal teams, to plan work sequences, resolve field issues, and maintain smooth site operations.
- Apply strong knowledge of civil, mechanical, and electrical construction to identify potential issues early and support integrated project delivery.
- Use technology tools such as MS Office and Procore to track progress, document work, manage information, and support project reporting.
- Support conflict management and industrial relations on site by recognizing potential labor issues and assisting in their resolution.
- Prioritize, organize, and schedule work effectively to meet project milestones and manage multiple tasks in a fast‑paced field environment.
- Influence team members and subcontractors to follow company policies, procedures, and instructions, reinforcing consistent standards across the project.
- Minimum 3+ years of experience as a Civil Superintendent or Solar Civil Superintendent overseeing mass grading and trenching work.
- Strong background in civil construction, with emphasis on earthworks, site construction, and civil scopes such as grading, trenching, and foundations.
- Experience working with general contractors and managing subcontractors in a field construction environment.
- Demonstrated ability to supervise and inspect civil construction activities, ensuring quality installations and adherence to specifications.
- Construction management and supervision experience, including planning, coordination, and field oversight.
- Ability to read and understand construction drawings, specifications, and contract exhibits.
- Strong knowledge of construction practices across civil, mechanical, and electrical disciplines.
- Proficiency with technology, including MS Office Suite and Procore, with the ability to learn new software tools.
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.
- Strong organization and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks.
- High level of attention to detail and analytical thinking, particularly in assessing quality and compliance.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Construction safety awareness and comprehension, with the ability to enforce safety procedures on site.
- Proficiency in subcontractor management, including holding subcontractors accountable for safety, quality, and productivity.
- Ability to inspect and evaluate elements of the project, including civil and related electrical construction components.
- Disciplined, self‑motivated work style with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
