We're seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Assistant Project Manager to join our growing team and support the successful delivery of heavy civil and site development projects throughout the Greater Richmond region. This role provides an excellent opportunity for an individual looking to expand their construction management career while gaining hands-on experience in project coordination, inspections, scheduling, logistics, and field operations.

The Assistant Project Manager will work closely with Project Managers, Superintendents, Foremen, subcontractors, suppliers, and clients to help ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, on schedule, and within budget. The ideal candidate will have experience in the construction industry, strong organizational skills, and a desire to develop professionally in a fast-paced environment focused on quality, teamwork, and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist Project Managers with the planning, coordination, and execution of heavy civil construction projects
  • Support the management of site development activities including grading, underground utilities, storm drainage systems, hardscape construction, and related infrastructure work
  • Coordinate project schedules, material deliveries, equipment utilization, subcontractors, and field resources to maintain project timelines
  • Conduct project site visits and inspections to monitor progress, identify issues, verify quality standards, and ensure compliance with plans and specifications
  • Assist with project documentation including RFIs, submittals, change orders, daily reports, meeting minutes, and project correspondence
  • Track project quantities, production rates, budgets, and schedules to support overall project performance
  • Communicate regularly with project stakeholders, including owners, engineers, subcontractors, suppliers, and internal teams
  • Assist in resolving project challenges, scheduling conflicts, and field issues to minimize delays and maintain productivity
  • Coordinate procurement activities and help expedite materials, equipment, and services necessary for project completion
  • Support project closeout activities, including punch lists, final documentation, and turnover requirements.
  • Ensure adherence to company safety policies, OSHA regulations, environmental requirements, and quality standards
  • Participate in project meetings and provide updates regarding project status, logistics, scheduling, and resource needs
Required Qualifications
  • Minimum 2-5 years of experience in the construction industry, preferably in site development, heavy civil construction, utility construction, or related fields
  • Knowledge of construction project management principles, scheduling, logistics, and field operations
  • Understanding of heavy civil construction activities including grading, wet and dry utilities, storm drainage, and site development projects
  • Strong organizational, planning, and time management skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt to changing project needs
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, and Outlook
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and project documents
  • Valid Virginia driver's license with an acceptable driving record
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Project Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field strongly encouraged but not required
  • Experience working with project management software and construction scheduling platforms
  • Internship, co-op, or field experience supporting construction projects
  • Familiarity with estimating, budgeting, and project cost controls
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to work both in an office environment and on active construction sites
  • Ability to walk uneven terrain and navigate active job sites safely
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds
