The Assistant Project Manager (APM) owns and facilitates tasks as outlined by the Project Manager (PM) or Sr. Project Manager (Sr. PM) within the projects assigned. The APM I is working to gain proficiency in the construction process and familiarity with working on commercial construction sites.
Projects that include an APM I can vary dramatically in duration and value. The APM I works closely with the PM or Sr. PM, potentially on multiple projects.
APMs provide support and communication for successful project completion. APMs provide a focus on the day-to-day details of these projects, including relaying correspondence between field and office (both internally and externally), ordering equipment, and managing project documentation. These duties help the project team ensure that the schedule and project goals for the job are met. It is critical that they perform this work within the policies, ethical standards, and objectives of the Hermanson Company.
Roles & Responsibilities – General- Coordinates with and supports the field, client, subcontractors, and vendors.
- Meets and develops relationships with project foremen, superintendents, customers, engineers, general contractors, and subcontractors.
- Performs all essential duties and responsibilities in accordance with Hermanson Company standards and procedures.
- Assists with one to multiple projects. May manage small projects.
- Works with manager to create a personal development plan.
- Develops a working knowledge of the local construction marketplace.
- Develops technical knowledge on mechanical & plumbing systems, building codes & standards, and Hermanson Construction standards.
- Performs project coordination duties as necessary, including:
- Maintaining current plan set on ACC Build or in Project Folder.
- Creating base procurement and submittal logs from equipment matrices and Specifications.
- Gathering and packaging submittals.
- Issuing submittals and logging.
- Saving and logging RFIs.
- Processing purchase orders.
- Tracking and updating procurement log.
- Issuing submittal, RFI, and procurement logs.
- Coordinating journal adjustments with Project Accountant.
- Setup and track per diem/subsistence payments.
- Collecting and building Closeout Document Package.
- Engages with Site Safety to understand safety audit results and develop an awareness of safety on the jobsite.
- Gains exposure to the BIM and detailing process.
- Understands construction schedules and how they were developed.
- Writes subcontracts.
- Tracks and collects startup, installation verification, and pre-commissioning forms as required per project.
- Creates Requests for Information (RFIs) as necessary, including relevant sketches. Marks up RFIs on contract documents, including plans and submittals.
