Project Manager
A leading heavy civil general contractor is seeking an experienced Project Manager to support major infrastructure projects in the Richmond, VA region. This role will focus on bridge rehabilitation, superstructure repair, and roadway improvement projects in partnership with VDOT.
The Project Manager will serve as the primary point of contact for assigned projects, working closely with Superintendents and Project Engineers to drive execution, safety, schedule, and financial performance.
This is a high-impact role supporting multiple active projects, including a VDOT M42 bridge repair project and roadway improvements, with long-term opportunity to help grow the firm's presence in the Virginia market.
Key Responsibilities:- Lead day-to-day management of heavy civil infrastructure projects (bridge, roadway, and site work)
- Oversee multiple projects concurrently depending on size and scope
- Partner with Superintendents and field teams to drive production and meet project milestones
- Serve as primary liaison with clients, subcontractors, and stakeholders
- Support long-term regional growth efforts in Virginia
- Develop and manage CPM schedules and look-ahead plans
- Coordinate subcontractors, materials, and equipment to maintain production
- Ensure alignment between field operations and project schedule
- Manage project budgets, forecasting, and cost controls
- Oversee pay applications, change orders, and billing processes
- Track and manage extra work and ensure proper documentation
- Lead jobsite safety initiatives and ensure compliance with OSHA and project-specific safety plans
- Promote a strong safety culture across all teams and subcontractors
- Represent the company in meetings with owners (VDOT), engineers, and project partners
- Maintain strong communication and relationships throughout the project lifecycle
- Initial focus on bridge and superstructure repair (VDOT M42) and roadway improvement projects
- Supporting multiple active jobs in the Richmond area
- Field-based role with flexibility for administrative work (some remote/WFH as needed)
- Team includes established Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent support
- 7+ years of heavy civil construction experience
- Project Manager experience required (not open to Project Engineers or Superintendents stepping up)
- Background in bridge, highway, or roadway construction strongly preferred
- Experience working on VDOT or similar DOT projects is a plus
- Strong understanding of:
- Project scheduling (Primavera P6 or equivalent)
- Cost control and forecasting
- Change order management
- Proficiency with construction management software (Procore, Viewpoint, etc.)
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
- Open to relocation candidates (limited local heavy civil talent in Richmond)
- Opportunity for long-term growth and regional expansion (VA/DC market)
- Travel may be required within the region depending on project assignments
