Heavy Civil Project Manager
A well-established self-perform heavy civil contractor is expanding across Virginia and hiring a Project Manager to run roadway, highway, and bridge construction. The backlog is funded and the projects are substantial. This role offers direct ownership of schedule, budget, and margin, with reporting straight to senior leadership.
Full-time, day shift. Travel is primarily local during business hours, with occasional out-of-area or overnight travel. The position is based in an active heavy civil field environment in central to western Virginia.
$140,000 to $180,000 base depending on experience, plus bonus opportunity.
What You'll DoYou will manage heavy highway, road, bridge, and civil infrastructure projects from planning through closeout, accountable for delivering each job on time, on budget, and built to standard. The work is self-performed across dirt, grading, utilities, bridges, storm drain, water and sewer, erosion control, and DOT roadway scope. You will own the schedule, budget, cost control, forecasting, change orders, documentation, and closeout, and you will protect projected margins by submitting accurate, timely cost and income projections and acting on variances as they appear.
As the main point of contact for owners, agencies, subcontractors, and vendors, you will lead field supervision and project engineering teams, setting clear roles and responsibilities. You will identify project risks early and drive solutions before they escalate, while protecting the company's position on contract changes, claims, documentation, and owner communication. Quality control sits with you as well, reviewing designs against engineering principles, company standards, and contract requirements, and maintaining a strong safety, quality, and production culture across the project.
Day to day, you will issue subcontracts and purchase orders, manage subcontractor performance, run weekly project meetings covering schedule and cost review, submit accurate and timely payment requisitions, and report project performance to leadership, elevating issues when needed.
