Construction Superintendent
Job Description
The Construction Superintendent oversees the day-to-day management of field operations for ground-up commercial projects, ensuring work is completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and to high quality standards. This onsite leader coordinates subcontractors, manages project schedules, drives productivity, and maintains strong communication with project teams, owners, and design partners from initial sitework through final completion.
Responsibilities
+ Lead and manage all daily field operations on the jobsite for ground-up commercial construction projects.
+ Coordinate and supervise subcontractors to ensure work is performed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project plans and specifications.
+ Manage the project schedule, sequencing activities from sitework through final completion to meet demanding timelines.
+ Monitor job progress, productivity, and resource allocation to keep the project on track and within budget.
+ Oversee onsite quality control, ensuring all work meets or exceeds established standards and client expectations.
+ Enforce safety policies and procedures on the jobsite, promoting a culture of safety and compliance with OSHA 30 guidelines.
+ Collaborate closely with project teams, owners, and design partners to resolve field issues and maintain clear communication.
+ Coordinate complex building systems, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and structural elements, to ensure proper integration.
+ Review and interpret construction documents, drawings, and specifications to guide field activities.
+ Identify and address potential risks, conflicts, and schedule impacts in a proactive manner.
+ Support project closeout activities, including final inspections and completion of punch lists.
Essential Skills
+ At least 8+ years of construction experience, with a minimum of 3 years in a Superintendent or Lead Superintendent role.
+ Proven experience managing ground-up commercial construction projects valued at $10 million or more.
+ Demonstrated ability to lead projects from initial sitework through final completion.
+ Strong background in construction management and construction supervision.
+ Experience working for a general contractor on projects with demanding schedules and high-quality expectations.
+ Subcontractor management skills with the ability to coordinate multiple trades on active jobsites.
+ Solid project management capabilities focused on schedule, budget, safety, and quality.
+ Knowledge of safety practices and standards, supported by OSHA 30 experience or training.
+ Expertise in quality control processes for commercial construction.
+ Ability to manage and coordinate complex building systems, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and structural components.

+ Experience delivering commercial, institutional, higher education, public sector, healthcare, life sciences, or large-scale private development projects.
+ background in general contracting for commercial construction.
+ Experience working on projects with high expectations for schedule adherence and quality outcomes.

Work Environment
This role is primarily based on the jobsite, providing direct oversight of field operations for ground-up commercial construction projects. The superintendent works closely with subcontractors, project teams, and design partners in a fast-paced environment with demanding schedules and high-quality expectations. The work involves regular presence in active construction areas, coordination of multiple trades, and hands-on supervision of complex building systems.
Job Type & Location
This is a Permanent position based out of Richmond, VA.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $120000.00 - $170000.00/yr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
