The company employs 200+ people, generates $60M+ in annual revenue, and holds Certified Class A Contractor status with $50M in bonding capacity. We self-perform heavy civil, heavy highway, site development, and utility work for federal, state, municipal, and private clients, supported by more than $10M in company-owned equipment.
Schedule:Full-time.
Compensation:$110,000 to $145,000 per year, depending on skills and experience
What You'll DoThis role is paired with a Senior Project Manager on active heavy civil and highway projects, with hands-on responsibility from day one. The Assistant Project Manager drives submittals, RFIs, and procurement schedules to keep field crews ahead of the work, and coordinates subcontractors and supplier purchase orders to protect schedule commitments. The role tracks quantities, production, and costs against budget, flagging variances early, and supports monthly payment requisitions, cost projections, and project documentation.
The Assistant Project Manager also participates in weekly project team meetings covering schedule and cost review, and supports safety practices and culture across the project. As experience is demonstrated, the role expands to include owner and inspector interface, schedule updates, and change management.
- 3 to 10 years of experience on heavy civil, highway, or utility construction projects (field engineer, project engineer, or current APM)
- B.S. in Civil Engineering or Construction Management, or equivalent field experience
- Working knowledge of construction scheduling and cost tracking
- Valid driver's license with a good driving record
- Based in or willing to relocate to the Richmond, VA area
- Experience with Heavy Job, Bluebeam, or Primavera P6
- Prior exposure to federal, state, or municipal heavy civil projects
- Base salary $110,000 to $145,000, depending on skills and experience
