Position Summary
The Surgical Dental Assistant supports Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery providers in patient care, including surgical procedures, sedation monitoring, imaging, and pre-operative and post-operative support. This role prepares and maintains sterile operatories, assists during complex surgical procedures, monitors sedated patients, and ensures accurate clinical documentation, inventory control, and compliance with all regulatory standards.
Qualifications Required- High school diploma or equivalent
- Sedation training (general anesthesia, IV moderate sedation, or nitrous oxide)
- Experience monitoring sedated patients
- Minimum one year of surgical dental assisting experience
- Knowledge of oral surgery procedures, four-handed dentistry, and sterile technique
- Knowledge of sedation monitoring, infection control, OSHA, and HIPAA standards
- Ability to support operative workflows in a high-acuity clinical environment
- Strong communication, teamwork, and patient care skills
- Ability to prioritize, multitask, and adapt in fast-paced settings
- Basic computer proficiency with clinical documentation systems
- Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 pounds
