Duties & ResponsibilitiesThe School of Dentistry’s Department of Pediatric Dentistry isseeking applicants for a full-time faculty position to provideteaching, research, scholarly activities, and patient care.
The Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) School of Dentistry islocated in downtown Richmond, Virginia. With a 133-year history,Virginia’s only dental school offers opportunities for selected,qualified individuals to study dentistry and oral health throughits Doctor of Dental Surgery (D.D.S.) program, graduate specialtytraining programs, and a dental hygiene program. The VCU School of Dentistry is one of a small number of dental schools in the countryaffiliated with an academic medical center, the only dental schoolin the Commonwealth, and one of the oldest dental schools in the United States, founded in 1893.
It is one of six health sciencesacademic programs on the Medical College of Virginia (MCV) Campusof VCU.
Faculty members are expected to teach in an integrated curriculumsystem that includes baccalaureate, graduate, and professionaleducation. Teaching across traditional departmental lines and in multidisciplinary teams is required. Faculty members are expected to foster transformative learning that is informed byinterdisciplinary and translational research, scholarship, and creative expression. This includes teaching at affiliatedfacilities and supervision of dental and dental hygiene students and dental residents.
ClinicalParticipation in the intramural faculty practice is expected,including hospital-based practice with the VCU Health System andthe Children’s Hospital of Richmond loyees working in orwith VCUHealth in any capacity will be required to comply with all relevant health system policies and procedures, including thehealth system's vaccination requirements.
ResearchParticipation in departmental, School of Dentistry, or VCU Health System research projects is expected. For an appointment at therank of associate professor, the candidate will be required to havea well-developed scholarly research portfolio with evidence ofmulti-disciplinary applications.
ServiceFaculty members will serve on departmental and other university committees as necessary, and in their respective professionalfields.
QualificationsRequired Qualifications
- DDS / DMD degree or foreign equivalent
- A certificate in pediatric dentistry from an ADA-accredited program
- Eligible or certified by the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry
- Eligible for licensure in Virginia
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Demonstrated experience working in and fostering an environment of respect, professionalism, and civility with a population offaculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences,or a commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU
- Demonstrated ability to contribute to, advocate for, and participate in a humanistic environment of learning
- Demonstrate the ability to adapt to change and embrace modern technology
- If tenure eligibility is desired, for an appointment at therank of the assistant professor, the candidate will be required tohave an established research agenda and a clear potential for external funding, and potential for a scholarship or creative expression to complement and expand existing expertise in the department
- History of clinical practice care, academic teaching, and scholarly activity
