Merrick & Company is seeking an experienced Life Sciences Laboratory Planner / Architect to lead the architectural design of projects as part of a multi‑disciplinary team. The position is located in a U.S. based office.

This role requires a competent laboratory planner / architect responsible for all phases of architectural production and BIM for a variety of Life Sciences projects, from programming through construction administration. Duties include interpreting, organizing, executing, and coordinating the design and production effort for one or more large or complex projects.
Basic office hours are 8:00 am MT to 5:00 pm MT, Monday through Friday, with a hybrid schedule. Occasional overtime may be needed with short notice, and a minimal travel requirement may apply.
Client projects for this position require U. S. Citizenship.

What You’ll Do- Licensure as an Architect in the United States or Canada is strongly preferred.
- If not licensed, demonstrate a plan and ability to obtain licensure within two years of joining Merrick.
- Have experience in all aspects of life science architectural practice, including planning, programming, schematic design, production of construction documents (drawings and specifications), and construction administration.
- Be responsible for major design decisions, involving spatial and aesthetic elements, detailing of materials, and coordination of engineered building systems.
- Manage architectural projects and demonstrate skills in a multi‑disciplinary team environment.
- Direct and mentor junior architects and designers, delegating work as required.
- Perform building code reviews and write reports such as feasibility studies, condition reports, and recommendations.
- Ensure internal communication and coordination of design efforts.
- Coordinate all support activities required to complete design efforts and quality assurance processes.
- Work with other disciplines to ensure accuracy of the package, meet schedule, budget commitments, and attendance expectations.
- Meet with clients to prepare and/or validate proposed scope of work.
- Responsible for project cost control.
- Seven (7) years minimum experience as a Life Science Laboratory Planner / Architect.
- Registered architect in the United States; if not registered, must demonstrate how to become registered within two years of hire.
- Strong problem‑solving skills and the ability to apply architectural principles across multiple clients and projects.
- Ability to facilitate and support design charrettes.
- Experience in all phases of design, with a track record of completed, successful projects.
- Proficient in Revit, AutoCAD, 3D modeling programs (Sketch Up & Revit preferred), and Adobe Creative Suite.
- Skilled in MS Office, Adobe Acrobat, and PowerPoint.
- U. S. Citizenship required for client projects.
- Willingness and ability to obtain U. S. government security clearances.
- Life Science and/or Containment Laboratory project experience preferred.
- Ability to visually communicate concepts to clients.
- Demonstrated ability to create presentations and communicate concepts using various software applications.
