MISSION OR GOAL OF UNIT: The mission of the VCU Division of Colon and Rectal Surgery is to deliver superior patient care with integrity and kindness while advancing knowledge through research and education.
CHIEF PURPOSE OF THIS POSITION IN SUPPORT OF ABOVE MISSION OR GOAL:
This position is for a Part Time FTE as part of a joint VA recruitment effort.
This position is open rank, an early- to mid-career collateral, non-tenure track faculty position in the VCU Colon and Rectal Division. The faculty member should have clinical and research interests that complement and expand on existing expertise in the Division. Clinical and research areas of particular interest should primarily be in the treatment of complex colorectal and anorectal diseases. The faculty member should also support the current Division’s expanding efforts to provide excellent colorectal surgical support to many of our current regional outreach programs, including Massey Cancer Center.
Finally, the faculty member should support the Division’s commitment to teaching Surgery Residents and, Fellows as well as VCU Medical Students.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Teaching
The faculty member will have teaching responsibilities in Colon and Rectal Surgery as it relates to residents and medical students.
Research
The faculty member may participate in clinical and/or basic science research relevant to the expanding field of Colon and Rectal Surgery. A record of publication in refereed journals or presentations at national meetings is expected. The faculty member is expected to develop interdisciplinary collaborations within VCU’s Massey Cancer Center, and other medical and surgical specialties.
Service
The faculty member may serve on University, Health System, and Departmental committees as requested by leadership. They will assist with the recruitment, training, and placement of Residents and Fellows among the varied specialties outlines above.
Clinical
Faculty member clinical responsibility will be focused on a part‑time colorectal clinical practice. Will be responsible for providing care for the Colorectal Surgical patients on the MCV campus of VCU. They will be responsible for the development of an active colorectal surgical practice, with the support of the Division and Department’s leadership.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications
- Board Certification or Eligibility in General Surgery
- Advanced training fellowship in an ACGME-accredited Colon and Rectal Surgery program
- Commitment to Outcomes, Clinical and/or Basic Science Research
- Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU.
