The Division of Infectious Diseases provides clinical care to patients with all types of infectious processes in both the inpatient and outpatient settings.
purpose of this position
The Division of Infectious Disease of Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine seeks applicants for a new Clinician Educator in the subspecialty of Orthopedic Musculoskeletal Infectious Diseases (Ortho/MSK). The qualified individual should be Board Eligible/Board Certified in Infectious Disease and Internal Medicine. The candidate must qualify for an appointment at the Assistant or Associate Professor level, and have demonstrated expertise in the management of patients with complex infectious disease.
She/he must demonstrate experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff and student environment or a commitment to do so as a faculty member at Virginia Commonwealth University. The successful candidate will participate as Clinician‑Educator in the teaching and mentoring of medical students, residents and Infectious Disease fellows in inpatient and outpatient settings, will establish outpatient clinics in Ortho/MSK infectious disease and will contribute to the overall scholarly and research activities of the Division.
Time and effort shall be devoted to teaching and teaching‑related activities. This shall include medical students, dental students, graduate students, allied health students, residents, fellows, and colleagues where appropriate. Teaching responsibilities also shall be considered to include preparation of instructional materials, evaluative materials, testing and maintenance of personal professional skills through continuing education, advising and mentoring trainees, and participation in academic reinforcement programs.
ResearchTime and effort shall be devoted to funded research‑related activities. Efforts to obtain funding for your research in areas of focus consistent with the mission of the School of Medicine and Department must be demonstrated during your employment. In addition, reasonable scholarly activities, such as publications, presentations at national meetings and participation in appropriate academic organizations, are expected.
ClinicalTime and effort shall be devoted to the provision of clinical services. You are expected to maintain a practice in Orthopedic Musculoskeletal Infectious Diseases (Ortho/MSK) to include approximately 20 weeks on inpatient service per year. You are expected to integrate students and residents into this service.
Qualifications- Board eligible/board certified M.D. (or equivalent M.B.B.S or D.O.) with experience in infectious diseases or a closely related discipline
- Minimum of one year of clinical experience with Orthopedic Musculoskeletal Infectious Diseases
- Record of publication and conference dissemination demonstrating expertise in the faculty's area of research
- Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU
- Research experience with Ortho/MSK (preferred)
