Workload AllocationThe Assistant Director of the CTLE will maintain a joint appointment with the Office of the Provost, Faculty Affairs (75‑80%) and their respective school or college (20‑25%). The Assistant Director will be expected to maintain a course load of at least one course per year as determined by the needs of the school or college.
Responsibilities- Provide assistance with formulation of best practices in teaching and learning with a focus on the role of technology
- Assist with formulating faculty development opportunities related to increasing student engagement, active and experiential learning, and other high-impact pedagogies
- Assist the director in collaborating with other CTLE team members and partner units to research and integrate evidence‑based practices that inform teaching and learning efforts within and across learning modalities and formats, with particular focus on GenAI
- Perform other related duties, as assigned by the Senior Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs, and the Director of the CTLE
- Ph.D. or Ed.D. from an accredited university
- Current term or tenured faculty member k of associate professor or professor preferred
- 1+ years experience working in a faculty development capacity
- 5+ years experience teaching in higher education
- Knowledge of pedagogy, instructional design, and effective assessment and approaches for virtual learning
- Conversant with literature on educational development, the scholarship on teaching and learning (SoTL) and learning science research
- Comfortable with educational technologies commonly used in higher education
- Ability to work independently and manage complex projects with minimal supervision
- Excellent time management and problem solving skills
- Outstanding interpersonal, oral, written, and communication skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Google applications
- Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU
- Experience as a full-time faculty member within VCU
- Experience in the scholarship of teaching and learning, publications, and research presentations (conference and other)
- Experience with teaching using active, experiential, and applied learning
- Quantitative and qualitative data analysis and reporting skills
- Some graphic design experience, or willingness to develop skills in this area
