School of BTT Horticulture Adjunct Faculty; Part-Time

Overview

Virginia Western Community College is accepting applications for part-time Horticulture Adjunct Faculty in the School of Business, Technology, and Trades (BTT). Adjunct faculty are appointed on a course-by-course, semester basis as needed. Horticulture courses include Plant Propagation, Landscape Plants, Pest Management, Soils, Greenhouse Management and Management of a Horticulture Business. Faculty are expected to maintain currency in their teaching disciplines and in trends in community college education, and to be active participants in departmental communication.

Courses are taught in-person on the main campus, with the possibility of hybrid or distance learning/online formats.

• Teach college-level horticulture courses as assigned (e.g., Plant Propagation, Landscape Plants, Pest Management, Soils, Greenhouse Management, Management of a Horticulture Business).
• Maintain currency in teaching disciplines and in trends in community college education.
• Engage in departmental communication and contribute to college initiatives as needed.
• May perform other duties as assigned and may assist the agency or state government in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

• Minimum of high school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum of five years of recent occupational experience in horticulture.
• Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills; ability to write syllabi and exams; ability to develop learning strategies, curriculum and assessments; ability to work with students of varying abilities from diverse backgrounds.
• Preferred: teaching experience at the college level;
  Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree with a major in horticulture.

  Hours and days vary based on course offerings and enrollment. Appointment is on an as-needed, course-by-course, semester basis.

  Main Virginia Western campus; potential for hybrid or distance learning formats.
• FLSA Status:
  Exempt (UG Pay Band; per credit hour rate determined by qualifications).
