General Description:
The Elementary Math Intervention Specialist provides district-level leadership and support for elementary math intervention programming across the division. This position is responsible for strengthening Tier II and Tier III math interventions through coaching, professional learning, data analysis, and systems alignment. The Specialist works closely with school-based Math Interventionists, instructional leaders, and Curriculum & Instruction staff to ensure the effective, consistent, and evidence-based implementation of math interventions aligned to division priorities and state standards.
Work is performed in both office and school settings and requires collaboration, facilitation, analysis of student data, and instructional leadership. The position supports continuous improvement of math outcomes for elementary students through capacity building and coherence across schools.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provides ongoing instructional support, coaching, and guidance to all elementary school-based Math Interventionists across the division.
- Develops and facilitates district wide professional learning for Math Interventionists focused on Tier II and Tier III math intervention practices, progress monitoring, and evidence-based instructional strategies.
- Supports school leaders and instructional teams in strengthening intervention structures and schedules to ensure equitable access to math intervention services.
- Ensures alignment and coherence of elementary math intervention practices across schools, consistent with division curriculum, assessment tools, and Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) expectations.
- Collaborates with the Department of Curriculum & Instruction to align intervention practices with Tier I core instruction, pacing, and instructional resources.
- Assists schools in refining intervention entry and exit criteria, progress monitoring practices, and documentation processes.
- Analyzes district and school-level intervention data to identify trends, strengths, and areas of need related to elementary math achievement.
- Supports Math Interventionists and school teams in using assessment data to inform instructional decisions and adjust intervention supports.
- Assists in the preparation and interpretation of data for local, state, and federal reporting related to math interventions and student progress.
- Models effective math intervention strategies and instructional practices during school visits and collaborative learning sessions.
- Provides targeted feedback and coaching to Math Interventionists to improve instructional quality and fidelity of implementation.
- Supports the onboarding and mentoring of new Math Interventionists.
- Works collaboratively with principals, assistant principals, math teachers, interventionists, and other district staff to strengthen math intervention programming.
- Serves as a liaison between schools and the Department of Curriculum & Instruction regarding elementary math intervention needs and initiatives.
- Communicates clearly and professionally with staff, administrators, and stakeholders regarding expectations, data, and instructional practices.
- Maintains accurate records, documentation, and reports related to intervention support and professional learning.
- Attends and actively participates in required meetings, professional development, and district initiatives.
- Assists in the development and revision of division guidance, resources, and tools related to elementary math interventions.
- Upholds School Board policies, administrative regulations, and professional standards of practice.
Qualifications:
- Must hold a Virginia Collegiate Professional License or Postgraduate Professional License with an endorsement in Mathematics or Elementary Education with demonstrated math expertise.
- Minimum of five years of successful teaching experience, including experience providing math interventions at the elementary level.
