Adjunct faculty members are responsible for planning and teaching courses in the designated discipline/field of study to students from a variety of academic backgrounds. Teaching may include face‑to‑face, remote and online formats. Adjunct faculty can teach up to 12 credit hours in the fall and spring semesters and/or up to 8 credit hours during summer session. Teaching load is based on student enrollment and staffing needs.
The contract contains no expectation or guarantee of continued employment.
- Teach specific classes in Business.
- Develop course syllabi and instructional materials.
- Maintain records, assign grades, and assess student progress.
- Adhere to policies, procedures, and regulations of NOVA and the VCCS.
- Maintain current competence in the specific discipline or field of specialization.
Provide quality instruction, meet assigned classes regularly, submit required records and reports routinely, teach prescribed courses with established texts, and adhere to professional ethics in accordance with college policies, procedures, and regulations.
Residence RequirementMust reside in the DC, VA, MD DMV area.
Special AssignmentsMay be required to perform other duties as assigned. May assist the agency or state government in emergency declarations by the Governor.

- Bachelor’s degree in the teaching field or associate degree with demonstrated competencies; qualifying fields include business administration, business management, contracting, acquisitions, and management.
- Degree awarded by a regionally accredited institution.
- Minimum of two years of full‑time related occupational experience (part‑time experience will be converted to full‑time equivalent).
- Must be available to teach in person in the evenings and/or weekends.
- Prior experience teaching in higher education.
- Experience teaching in classroom, hybrid, and online formats.
- Demonstrated commitment to fostering a diverse, equitable, and inclusive working and learning environment.
- Experience teaching students from diverse language backgrounds and varying levels of proficiency.
