Biology Adjunct Faculty; Part-Time

Overview

Virginia Western Community College is accepting applications for part-time Biology Adjunct Faculty in the School of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). Adjunct faculty positions are appointed on a course-by-course, semester basis as needed. Biology adjunct faculty are needed to teach college-level courses in-person on the main Virginia Western campus, or a hybrid class where lectures are online and labs are in-person on the main Virginia Western campus.

Faculty are expected to maintain currency in their teaching disciplines and in trends in community college education. In addition, faculty are expected to be active participants in all Biology department communication.

Special Assignments:
May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

• Teach college-level biology courses in-person on the main campus or via hybrid formats (online lectures with in-person labs).
• Maintain currency in the biology discipline and trends in community college education.
• Be an active participant in Biology department communications.
• Complete special assignments as required and assist in emergencies as needed.

• Must possess a Master’s degree in Biology or a Master’s degree (in any field) with at least 18 graduate semester hours in Biology courses.
• All Adjunct Faculty positions require excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills; ability to write syllabi and exams; ability to develop learning strategies, curriculum and assessments; and the ability to work with students of varying abilities from diverse backgrounds.

• Doctorate degree in Biology (preferred).
• Teaching experience at the college level (preferred).
