Job Description JOB STATUS

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Associate’s degree or completion of 60 hours of college credits from an accredited college or university recognized by the Virginia Department of Education, or at least three years of experience working with secondary students and/or adults with autism, intellectual disabilities, or other low incidence disabilities.
  • Experience as an Instructional Assistant or providing job training to secondary students and/or adults with autism, intellectual disabilities, or other low incidence disabilities (preferred).
PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS
  • Ability to effectively communicate and promote the mission, philosophy, and curriculum of RCEEA to parents, school and classroom staff, colleagues, and community partners.
  • Participate in regularly scheduled and ongoing professional development and technical assistance sessions and demonstrate consistent and accurate implementation of all competencies addressed in the trainings.
  • Provide varying levels and models of support in vocational settings to students with various disabilities.
  • Design and implement compensatory strategies, adaptations, and modifications based on job requirements and input from the employee and employer.
  • Design and implement positive behavior supports.
  • Effectively meet and address the communication needs of students, including those with limited or no verbal communication skills.
  • Follow a standardized protocol for assessing students’ entry level skills, using data collection tools to measure student progress and inform instruction, and conduct weekly vocational evaluations to determine progress and identify areas of strength and need.
  • Regularly meet with administration and instructional staff to discuss student progress, strengths, and needs.
  • Gather employment information by doing job analyses at business sites in order to match a person with a position.
  • Show ability to perform job expectations independently and collaboratively with various stakeholders.
  • Demonstrate effective and respectful communication and interactions with family members, other caregivers, and community partners.
  • Provide parent training and linkages to community resources as appropriate.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
CONDITIONS OF WORK
  • Duties performed typically in a school setting.
  • Professional work providing teaching and/or training services to students with disabilities.
  • Occasional movement of students in wheelchairs and other mechanical devices may be required.
  • Occasional lifting up to 50 pounds.
  • Work requires stooping, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, vocal communication, hearing, and visual acuity for preparing and analyzing written or computer data.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills for expressing or exchanging ideas, hearing to perceive information at a normal spoken word level and visual acuity for preparing and analyzing written or computer data.
