PVCC is a public, open access institution of higher education in the Virginia Community College System. The college serves residents of Charlottesville and Albemarle County and surrounding counties. Position title is Tutor, Embedded Tutor, & Academic Coach. Department:

Employment type:

Purpose:
Tutors and Academic coaches help students improve their academic performance and achieve their educational goals. They offer guidance and support in one or more subject areas including mathematics, biological sciences, business, humanities, physical sciences, social sciences, and technologies. They assist students in developing study skills, time management strategies, and other techniques that contribute to academic success. Tutors may also serve as an embedded tutor in specific courses.
and Responsibilities
Tutors and Academic coaches may work with students individually or in groups. Responsibilities are customized to the needs of each student but typically involve helping students comprehend complex concepts; offering guidance on assignments, projects, and homework; and fostering confidence in the subject(s) they study. Tutors may be embedded into specific courses to support students in the classroom. Tutoring and coaching services assist students in prioritizing tasks, preparing for exams, and setting goals.
These services aim to facilitate deep learning and equip students with skills for success during and after college. New personnel will complete tutor and academic coach training and participate in ongoing professional development activities. The Tutoring Center assists students in the following courses and subject areas:

Special Assignments May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
