VCUarts, Department of Art Education Adjunct - Creative Arts Day Camp Summer Lead Teacher

Overview

The VCUarts Department of Art Education is seeking Lead Teachers for the Creative Arts Day Camp (CADC) for children rising into grades K-9. Each camp session will have 4 Lead Teachers who teach 4 class periods per day each week. The CADC runs each week June 15th - July 31st.

• Develop lesson plans with a theme/big-idea, objectives, materials, and timeline for the entire week of camp.
• Lead teachers are expected to take initiative in developing lessons, classroom management, material lists with budget, and the weekly CADC Exhibition for each week they are hired.
• Provide expectations to the Assistant Teacher on classroom management and ensure a lesson that is safe and appropriate for the class.
• At the end of each week, Lead Teachers are responsible for restoring CADC classrooms and work spaces to their original state and helping clean up 1 day after camp is over (August 3-7, 2026).
• Lead Teachers are Tier 2 individuals (see Compliance Training).

• Actively pursuing or recently obtained K-12 Art Education licensure.
• Demonstrated experience working in and fostering an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU.

• In VCU’s Art Education program or recent graduate (within two years) of an Art Education program with licensure.
• Local to Richmond Area.

Pay is $950/week per session, including course planning, orientation, and cleanup.
