Overview
Adjunct Faculty – Finance. Part-time faculty employed to teach courses in the designated discipline, with possible formats including face-to-face, remote, and online. Teaching load can include up to 12 credit hours in fall and spring and up to 8 credit hours in summer; load is based on student enrollment and staffing needs. The adjunct contract contains no expectation or guarantee of continued employment.
Responsibilities- Teach specific classes in the designated discipline.
- Develop course syllabi and instructional materials.
- Maintain records, assign grades, and assess student progress.
- Adhere to policies, procedures, and regulations of NOVA and the VCCS.
- Maintain current competence in the particular discipline or field of specialization.
As a part of the primary responsibility to provide quality instruction, the College expects each faculty member to meet assigned classes regularly; submit required records and reports routinely; teach the prescribed courses of study with the established texts; and adhere to the statement on professional ethics in accordance with College policies, procedures, and regulations.
Must reside in the (DC, VA, MD) DMV area.
KSA/Required Qualifications KSA- Ability to develop and adapt teaching and learning strategies to accommodate the diversity of community college students.
- Ability to use formative and summative assessment measures to enhance student learning.
- Experience with or ability to utilize proven teaching strategies that promote student success.
- Ability to use or incorporate emerging technologies and alternative delivery methods to enhance classroom instruction.
- Excellent interpersonal, analytical, and oral/written communication skills.
- Available to teach a combination of day, evening, weekend, and online classes.
- Knowledge of major concepts, theories, and subject matter in Finance. Subjects in the discipline include, but are not limited to, Personal Finance, Securities Investment, Credit Union Operations, Corporate and/or Small Business Financial Management.
- Bachelor degree in the teaching field or associate degree in the teaching field with demonstrated competencies. Qualifying fields for degree can include business administration, business management, finance, accounting and taxation.
- Qualifying academic degree must be awarded by and/or completed with a regionally accredited institution.
- A minimum of two years of full-time, related occupational experience. Part-time occupational experience will be converted to its full-time equivalent.
- Experience teaching in classroom, hybrid, virtual-synchronous, and online formats.
- Demonstrated commitment to fostering a diverse, equitable, and inclusive working and learning environment.
- Experience in teaching college-level business or business-related courses.
- Experience teaching students from diverse language backgrounds and varying levels of proficiency.
- Experience teaching in a classroom at a community college.
- Five or more years of occupational experience in mid-level management.
