Adjunct faculty members are responsible for effectively planning and teaching courses in the designated discipline/field of study to students from a variety of academic backgrounds and experiences. Teaching may include face‑to‑face, remote, and online formats. Adjuncts teach up to 12 credit hours in the fall and spring semesters and up to 8 credit hours during the summer session.
Duties and Tasks- Teach specific classes in the designated discipline.
- Develop course syllabi and instructional materials.
- Maintain records, assign grades, and assess student progress.
- Adhere to policies, procedures, and regulations of NOVA and the VCCS.
- Maintain current competence in the particular discipline or field of specialization.
Provide quality instruction, meet assigned classes regularly, submit required records and reports routinely, teach prescribed courses with the established texts, and adhere to the statement on professional ethics in accordance with college policies, procedures, and regulations.
ResidenceMust reside in the (DC, VA, MD) DMV area.
Special AssignmentsMay be required to perform other duties as assigned, and may be required to assist the agency or state government in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

- Demonstrated ability to work with or adapt to teaching with technology.
- Demonstrated ability to work with a diverse population.
- Bachelor’s degree in the field with related experience.
- Master’s degree in the field or master’s degree with a minimum of 18 graduate semester hours in Counseling, Student Development, or related fields.
- Teaching experience – college level teaching experience preferred.
- Experience working with a learning management system (Canvas, Blackboard, etc.).
- Experience teaching in-person and online/asynchronously.
- Experience teaching remotely/synchronously.
