Teaching Faculty in Nursing ($3,000 Sign-On Bonus). 9‑month instructor role (Code 01013‑SW). Exempt under FLSA. Salary range $52,905 to $102,591. Full‑time. Work schedule varies. Sensitive position. No telework options.
Position SummaryThe major emphasis is on teaching and inspiring students through classrooms, laboratories, individual conferences, and related activities. Faculty responsibilities include office hours, committee work, student activities, community activities, student advising, and professional activities.
Functional Responsibilities- Teaching:
Create a learning environment that facilitates students' acquisition of knowledge and skills in a discipline and/or program. Responsibilities include teaching four components. - Instructional Design:
Utilize and distribute established course syllabus using Syllabus Builder, participate in textbook selection, design and implement assessment strategies that measure student achievement of course learning outcomes. - Instructional Delivery:
Align course activities with student learning outcomes, employ active learning strategies, use appropriate technology, provide timely feedback, and communicate respectfully. - Instructional Effectiveness:
Deliver instruction aligned with learning outcomes, participate in student surveys, conduct meaningful assessments, analyze prior ratings, and implement action plans. - Instructional Expertise:
Maintain currency in the assigned teaching discipline(s) and instructional technology. - Scholarly and Creative Engagement:
Participate in conferences, workshops, academic coursework, research, publications, and grant activity related to the teaching discipline(s). - Institutional Responsibility:
Fulfill institutional responsibilities such as participating in the college’s development plan, holding office hours, serving as an advisor, attending required meetings, keeping accurate attendance reports, submitting grades timely, and maintaining collegial relationships. - Service:
Quality participation and commitment to students, the college, and community organizations. Service activities are divided into College representation, College citizenship, and Community citizenship. Responsibilities may include work during day, evening, and or weekend programs, including distance learning.
- Willingness to design and implement curriculum to support and improve student learning.
- Ability to develop and adapt teaching strategies to accommodate diversity among community college students.
- Ability to use timely formative and summative assessment measures to enhance student learning.
- Experience with, or willingness to learn, proven teaching strategies that promote student success.
- Willingness to use or incorporate emerging technologies and alternative delivery methods appropriately (online, hybrid, content software, web‑enhancements, etc.).
- Ability to communicate interpersonally (group and one‑on‑one) orally and in writing.
- Willingness to stay current and continually improve knowledge and understanding of the discipline.
- Teaching experience preferred, especially at the community college level.
- Master’s degree or Doctorate degree with a major in nursing from a regionally accredited college or university.
- Holds a current, unencumbered license as a registered nurse or multistate licensure privilege to practice nursing in Virginia.
- A minimum of two (2) years of direct client care experience as a registered nurse.
- Medical/Surgical, Critical Care, Cardiac, or Step‑down nursing experience is required.
