The International Rescue Committee (IRC) is a global humanitarian organization. This Adult Education Ameri Corps Member will support the Newcomer Education program in Richmond, VA by facilitating educational services for refugees and new immigrants.
LocationOffice: 2705 Park Ave, Richmond, VA 23230. Employees will also work in the community, at partner sites, and client homes.
Start Date & Time CommitmentStart:

2026. 40hours a week; includes nights and weekends. Must complete 1700hours over the year to qualify for educational stipends.
- Provide registration and logistical support for in‑person educational initiatives.
- Develop partnerships within the community to support educational programming.
- Ensure language access for programming.
- Communicate with program participants and volunteers.
- Conduct weekly check‑ins with the program director.
- Potential teaching opportunities for candidates with expertise in sewing, job readiness, or personal finance.
- U.S. Citizen or lawful permanent resident authorized to work in the U.S.
- Age 18or older.
- Commit to the full one‑year term of service.
- High‑school graduate, GED recipient, or currently working toward high‑school completion.
- Pass a National Service criminal history check.
- Driver’s license and reliable vehicle.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Comfort presenting to individuals and large groups.
- Proficient with G‑Suite, Office
365, Squarespace, and volunteer databases. - Strong project‑management and event‑planning skills.
- Flexible and willing to learn new things.
- Ability to build relationships and work independently or as part of a team.
- Alignment with the IRC mission and core values of welcome, equity, empowerment, community, respect for human dignity, authenticity, collaboration, integrity, and flexibility.
- Comfort working with clients from diverse cultures.
- Interest in education or group work.
- Experience running classes or group work.
- Sewing experience for a sewing class.
- Teaching English language learner courses.
Annual salary of $25,200. Benefits include paid time off (10 sick days, 10 U.S. holidays, 20‑25 PD days), medical, dental, vision, FSA, 403(b) retirement plan with matched contributions, disability & life insurance, and an employee assistance program.
