Position Classification:
Part-time, 12-month, Non-Exempt Staff Position.

Hours:

Average of 8‑25 hours per week.

Director of Security.

Position Summary

St. Christopher's School, the largest all-boys school in Virginia and one of the largest and oldest boys' schools in the Mid-Atlantic region, seeks a part‑time campus security officer. Serving approximately 1,000 boys in Grades JK‑12 in Richmond, Virginia, St. Christopher's is an Episcopal school committed to cultivating a community that is diverse, inclusive and welcoming. The safety of St. Christopher's students, faculty, and visitors is a top priority, with a trained security team ensuring campus safety during both school hours and after‑hours activities. This proactive role focuses on prevention, response, and fostering a strong sense of community to enhance safety. The ideal candidate will be vigilant, responsive, and supportive, ensuring a safe environment while building meaningful relationships with students and staff, ultimately reinforcing the School’s safety and mission.

Principal

Responsibilities
  • Provide a vigilant and active presence across the 43‑acre campus.
  • Support the coordination of campus security operations as directed by the Director of Security.
  • Take a leadership role during emergencies and serve as the primary liaison with local law enforcement and emergency responders.
  • Monitor the effectiveness of physical security measures, including access control systems, cameras, alarms, and emergency notification platforms.
  • Assist in identifying potential risks and contribute to ongoing efforts to strengthen campus safety.
  • Work collaboratively with faculty and staff to support a safe environment for classes, athletic events, and special programs.
  • Support the School in its enforcement of parking requirements for students, employees, and visitors.
  • Maintain a professional, approachable presence with students, faculty, staff, and parents to promote cooperation, mutual respect, and a community‑centered approach to security.
  • Stay current with school safety procedures, expectations, and training requirements.
Qualifications and Key Skills

  • A clear commitment to diversity, community, and inclusion in school communities, as expressed in the St. Christopher's Diversity and Inclusion Statement.
  • Minimum of 10 years of service in federal, state, or local law enforcement with responsibilities in patrol, investigations, or operational law enforcement duties.
  • Retired or separated in good standing within the last 10 years, demonstrating training consistent with retired qualification standards under the Law Enforcement Officers Safety Act (LEOSA).
  • Demonstrated experience in leading and managing emergency operations.
  • Proven professionalism, integrity, and discretion, with sound judgment and a proactive approach to safety leadership.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, experience engaging with students, and the ability to build positive relationships with students, faculty, staff, parents, and the broader school community, recognizing that effective campus safety depends on relationships, visibility, and trust.
  • Capable of utilizing modern security and communication technologies.
  • Availability during school days, evenings, weekends and extended hours.
  • Must pass all required background checks, including criminal history, child abuse and neglect registry, sex offender registry to work with juveniles in a school setting.
