Teacher - 4th Grade

Richmond City Public Schools – Southampton Elementary School, Richmond, Virginia – is hiring a 4th Grade Teacher.

Full‑time. Contract length: 9 and 1/2 months (200 days). Salary: $58,708 to $109,226 per year. FLSA:
Exempt.

Teacher position until filled. Responsible for delivering instruction and supporting student learning in 4th grade according to Richmond Public Schools philosophy and curriculum standards.

• Eligible for a valid provisional, collegiate or postgraduate Virginia professional license in an elementary endorsement area.
• One year of teaching experience or its equivalence preferred.
• Experience conducting lessons, assessing student progress, maintaining classroom discipline, meeting with parents, and providing ongoing academic guidance preferred.
• Bilingual skills, including Spanish, are a plus.

• Know and effectively communicate the Richmond Public Schools philosophy and mission.
• Plan and implement a program of study that meets individual student needs, interests, and abilities.
• Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to student developmental level.
• Prepare for assigned classes and provide written evidence of preparation per RPS, state, and federal guidelines.
• Guide learning toward curriculum goals, setting clear objectives for lessons, units, and projects and communicating them to students.
• Establish high expectations for academic success and classroom behavior.
• Employ a variety of instructional techniques and media to meet student needs and capabilities.
• Identify special needs and seek assistance of RPS specialists.
• Assess student accomplishments regularly and provide progress reports to supervisors and parents.
• Maintain accurate and complete records as required by law and RPS policy.
• Assist in designing, upholding, and enforcing school rules, administrative regulations, and School Board policy.
• Actively participate in faculty and/or department meetings.
• Strive to maintain and improve professional competence.
• Exercise leadership in working with school and RPS staff.
• Assist in selecting instructional materials.
• Establish and maintain open communication lines with students and parents.
• Pursue professional growth through reading, workshops, seminars, conferences, and/or advanced coursework.
• Assist in preparing data for local, state, and federal reports and for intervention.
• Participate in faculty committee meetings, chaperoning, counseling, and other service responsibilities.
• Exercise discretionary authority over day‑to‑day teaching functions and perform related duties as assigned.

Duties performed in a school setting. Requires frequent standing or sitting, light lifting up to 10 pounds, walking, vocal communication, hearing, and visual acuity for preparing and analyzing written or computer data.
