Open Rank Faculty - Epidemiology Methods

The Department of Epidemiology in the VCU School of Public Health invites applications for a faculty position in Epidemiologic Methods at the open rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor (tenure-track or tenured, commensurate with experience). The Department is part of a vibrant, interdisciplinary School of Public Health, committed to advancing public health through rigorous research, education, and policy impact.

The incoming faculty member will expand the department's expertise in quantitative and causal inference methods and contribute to training the next generation of epidemiologists. VCU offers a highly interdisciplinary environment for epidemiologic research, with opportunities to apply advanced methods across a wide range of public health domains. The faculty member will have a primary appointment in Epidemiology and may collaborate with other departments and divisions, enabling cutting-edge research that spans population, clinical, and translational science.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Develop and lead a research program in epidemiologic methods and/or innovative applications of advanced methods within specific epidemiologic subfields (The following subfields are of specific interest: aging, climate change, climate and environmental epidemiology, reproductive and perinatal epidemiology, chronic disease prevention and other public health domains)
  • Teach graduate and undergraduate courses in epidemiologic methods and quantitative approaches
  • Contribute to building strong method training environment, including mentoring doctoral and MPH students, postdoctoral fellows, and junior faculty in methodological research
  • Contribute to departmental, school, and university service activities

Qualifications:

  • Minimum Qualifications
    • A PhD or equivalent in Epidemiology or a related field.
    • Expertise in causal inference and quantitative methods. Experience in methods development, application of advanced epidemiologic methods, or both
    • Familiarity with approaches such as g-methods, proximal causal inference, quasi- experimental designs, target trial emulation, and causal graphs
    • A scholarly/research portfolio appropriate to rank, with evidence of multidisciplinary applications and a record of, or clear potential for, external funding to complement and expand existing expertise in the department
    • Commitment to excellence in teaching and mentoring at the undergraduate, graduate, and/or doctoral level, as appropriate to rank
    • Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment of respect, professionalism, and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU
  • Preferred Qualifications
    • Experience collaborating with clinical, public health, or community partners
    • Experience teaching or developing graduate-level courses
    • Experience working with large observational, administrative, or linked data
    • Strong interest in interdisciplinary, translational, and team-based research
