About the School
St. Catherine's School is an Episcopal day school in Richmond, Virginia, founded in 1890, enrolling roughly 950 girls ages 3 through grade 12. Position OverviewA Lower School lead teacher must create flexible programs and a class environment designed to cultivate each student's learning and personal growth. The teacher should establish rapport, motivate students, and guide them to develop skills and attitudes for lifelong learning and responsible global citizenship. The teacher will stay current with best practices and maintain positive relationships with parents and staff. Collaboration and support of the school's mission and core values are expected.

Hours of WorkStandard work week. Evening and weekend work may be required.
Essential Responsibilities- Develop and teach curriculum in language arts, mathematics, social studies, and character education based on national standards and developmental knowledge.
- Provide individualized and small‑group instruction using inquiry, discussion, and discovery strategies to meet each student's needs.
- Document students’ social‑emotional and academic progress, process thinking, and learning through anecdotal notes, work samples, digital portfolio creation, and report cards.
- Maintain positive relationships with families by communicating through conferences, narrative report card comments, emails, and phone calls as needed.
- Identify student needs and collaborate with faculty and support staff (enrichment teachers, academic services, therapists, counselors) to assess and support students in health, attitude, and learning needs.
- Contribute positively to the school’s culture and community by adhering to professional standards outlined by the school.
The employee must sit, stand, walk, use hands, reach, climb stairs, balance, stoop, kneel, crawl, talk, and hear. The job includes moderate physical activity both indoors and outdoors and may involve lifting or moving up to 50 pounds. Vision requirements include close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and ability to focus. CPR and First Aid certification is required.

Requirements and Qualifications- Bachelor's degree in a related field from an accredited university or equivalent work experience.
