Coordinator, School Improvement and Support

General Description:

The Coordinator, School Improvement and Support collaborates with principals, the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE), and division leaders to coordinate the development and execution of division and school support plans (help set criteria, the review process, monitor implementation, and track results) to ensure plans are aligned with state and federal standards and meet the division's goals. The Coordinator also supports the execution of grants aligned with school support and improvement.

The Coordinator collaborates with other academic departments to communicate objectives, progress, and results with all relevant stakeholders throughout the school support process.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Collaborates with principals and division leadership to develop comprehensive and coordinated division and school support plans with immediate and long-range goals aligned with the division's strategic plan and academic review requirements.
  • Monitors Evidence-Based Intervention (EBI) implementation and data for schools in-school improvement as identified by the state and federal government and prepares monthly reports to the principal directors and Chief Academic Officers (CAOs) on the progress of these initiatives at these schools.
  • Leads the development and execution of federal and local grants and coordinates other funding sources to support the school improvement process.
  • Assists in monitoring the Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) process at schools in school improvement throughout the division and prepares a monthly report to the principal directors and CAOs.
  • Works closely with the director of academic systems and supports, principal directors, and director of curriculum and instruction to coordinate school improvement efforts that are cohesive to the overall vision in RPS including the division's strategic plan.
  • Ensures that school and division teams are monitoring the effectiveness of school-wide initiatives through scheduled outcome-focused reviews with division and state leaders.
  • Collaborates with internal stakeholders to align expectations and develop cohesive systems and supports for school improvement that removes barriers, provides targeted support to the highest needs schools, and creates sustainable change in teaching and learning.
  • Ensures RPS programs comply with grant administration and other VDOE timelines and requirements.
  • Participates in meetings, workshops, and seminars to convey and/or gather information required to perform functions coordinating training, meetings, communications, etc.
  • Analyzes academic and social-emotional data to determine trends in student growth and performance to assist with the development of strategies for improvement.
  • Assists in designing and implementing effective communication procedures and documents for distribution to all stakeholders related to school improvement.
  • Participates in ongoing professional development by attending workshops, lectures, and institutes on specific subjects to enhance job performance.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree and Postgraduate Professional license in administration and supervision required.
  • RPS Principal experience preferred.
  • Minimum of three years of successful school or division leadership experience in improving student outcomes.
  • Knowledge of federal Title I regulations and guidelines.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead organizational change in large, dynamic institutions.
  • Demonstrated coaching experience in leadership development around systems, processes, and internal controls that assist in the continuous improvement process.
  • Strong strategic thinking, organizational skills, and attention to detail.
  • Commitment to outcome-based accountability, data-driven decision-making, differentiated instruction, and continuous adult learning.
  • Extensive knowledge of program management.
  • Experience working with school-based teams.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate complex ideas simply and succinctly.
  • Bilingual/fluency in Spanish preferred.
